Its that time of year. Back to School! Yeah!! I love summer but I also love the routine school provides for my family.  So this year I made up this back to school printable for your home, mantel, classroom. Wherever you want to  put it. Just right click, save to your computer and print. Prints 8x10.

Bloggers Guild Night {Poppy Seed Projects}

During the month of July I attended the first Idaho Bloggers Guild Meeting.  What a fantastic night!  I had so much fun with Holly (My Sister's Suitcase), Ashley (Flats to Flip Flops) and Makenzie (Girl Loves Glam).  I was so excited to meet these ladies.

Our first meeting was a craft night. Poppy Seed Projects sponsored our night.  We were sent a box full of projects goodies, 12x12 bracket boards and Texturizing Cream. So out came the paint, sponge brushes and chocolate of course.

We all had our own ideas for the project.  And they all turned out so different.

Here is my finished project.  

 I started with Poppy Seeds Texture Cream.  Way cool stuff! After drying I used Martha Stewarts Yellow paint as my first layer (2 coats).  Next I applied my Vinyl (cut on my Silhouette). And last I applied 2 coats of Turquoise paint. Once my project was completely dry I removed my vinyl.  Give it a little scrub with some sand paper and your project is complete.  I absolutely love how it turned out. A bright pop of color for my mantel shelf. It matches my summer mantel printable perfect.  I didn't even plan it.

1 {Skirt} 10 {Ways}–Apron Skirt

If you have been following the series. You know I have made a basic skirt and a basic skirt with a contrasting band. Today we are going to add  a sweet little apron.  Adding something like an apron give this skirt a little personality.  A perfect little skirt to start school.

Start by doing steps  1-4. Measure & cut, sew side seam, Fold hem, iron and stitch.
You next step is to make your apron.  Measure your apron and cut 2 pieces.  Mine for a size 4 was approximately 12x 12. 
Lay one piece right side up.



Lay your ribbons or trip ontop and pin into place. Stitch your ribbons down.




Lay second apron piece down on top of front of apron.  Right sides together.Stitch around 3 sides.



Turn right sides out, top stitch around your 3 sides and embellish.



To finish your  skirt, find center.  Pin the center of the apron to the center of your skirt.  You can either pin this into place or do a basting stitch  to connect the skirt to the apron.



To finish your skirt, fold the top 1/4 inch and press.  Fold over 1 more inch to make a casing.  Stitch around casing leaving a 1 inch hole to add elastic.  Thread elastic through casing. sew elastic ends together  then close casing.  Your skirt is all done.

Add a fun pair of leggings or tight and your little Miss is ready for school.  If you have any questions about this tutorial please don’t hesitate to email me.

Cup of the Day {Organizer}

Do your have a Cup organizer for your kids??  With summer in full swing, my kids are in  and out of the kitchen.  I feel like we use every dish in the house, especially cups.  When the kids are in school I run the dishwasher once a day.  When they are home it feels like 2 or 3 sometimes.  So I looked around for a solution.  None of the ideas I have seen on the web seemed to work for my family.   So one day I saw this at TJMaxx for just $2.99.  It is a drawer organizer. Washable and it is the perfect size to fit on my counter top and hold the cups we have in our home.

I added vinyl letters to distinguish a slot for each kiddo and its ready.  One for Mom and Dad too.

Finally something to keep my summer days less messy!  This little tray has really cut down on dishes and doesn’t take up a lot of space. I love that they can grab a quick drink and head back to play without making a mess.

Kitchen Makeover

Welcome to my Kitchen Makeover. We purchased our home a couple of years ago.  I looked at so may homes and fell in love with it the first time I saw it.  It took a little convincing for my husband, but I did it.  The home was in foreclosure.  Our relator told us the home has great bones but needs some work.  I walked in and could picture it as my home.  Lucky for my I could see past the flaws.  A large mudroom and pantry are my favorite features.  I had dreamed about my mudroom. Lockers for each child, fold out ironing board and wash basin.  I love it.  My kitchen on the other had is nice but way to much wood for me with 4 different stains or paint in one room. Some of the features I love are under and over the cabinet lighting. We have lights that can be turned on that are above and below the wall cabinets.  It makes it hard to decorate above the cabinets but that means less dust bunnies for me to find. Here is what it looks like.

I started with the bead board backsplash. 
I chose a hexagon subway tile. I found it at Lowes.   The style is the same but my tiles were all white.  Then every now and then I would cut out a small square tile ands replace it with a colored glass tile.


Here is the kitchen with just the tile done.

Already a huge difference. Almost enough to stop there but I needed a little color. So I painted my Island. My front room is in Dark Turquoise (I{heart} Turquoise) and Burnt Orange.  So I painted my Island the same color as the wall above my fireplace to help tie the 2 rooms together.

The last phase of my kitchen make over was the ceiling.  Did you see the wood slat ceiling.  I love the wood slats but the honey color was not my cup of tea.  I thought that white paint would help brighten up the room.  I also had 3 pendant lights.  2 were broken.  They also broke your line of vision when looking into the kitchen.
So I painted the ceiling white. Took the Pendant lights down and replaced it with a ceiling light box that matched the bead board oven hood.
