Super Hero Dress Ups and Costume

 

A few months ago I hosted a yard sale for a Youth Fundraiser.  One of the donations was a simple super hero cape made by a neighbor who had passed away.  Her family were cleaning out the house and decided to donate the old dress ups.  I was totally intrigues by the simplicity of these capes and just had to recreate them in an updated version.  So I began figure out the designs I wanted and how I would put them together.  So today I will share how I made the basic cape and over the next couple of weeks I will share the individual images I made for each super hero. So First up is Spiderman!

I will start with the basic cape that is used for all versions.

Super Hero Cape {Riley Blake Designs}

 

A few months ago I received the new Riley Blake Designs Catalog.  I saw these capes and knew I needed one for my little guy.  I was so excited when RBD told me they would send me out a few to try and share with you. 

RBD will be releasing these beautiful panels later this month. They come in 3 colors. See them below.{even the girls can play along}

This is one of the coordinating fabrics. I think I need a project just for this fabric. Maybe a cute Neck Tie??? I love it!

Each panel comes with written instructions, a cape (one side), wristbands, waistband and mask. To complete the project you will need 3/4 yard coordinating fabric for back of cape, hook and loop tape, elastic (for mask) and a small amount of felt or batting for the accessories.

If your are new to sewing or want to start this is the perfect project to get started with! Just a few straight lines and a little zig zag stitching!

Painted Pull Back Cars {Kid Craft}

With summer in full swing I often find my kids bored to tears with nothing to do except watch T.V. and play video games.    So I love to find a fun craft for them that fits all ages.  So today I am sharing my painted pull back cars. We made these a while ago and my kids loved it.  They painted for an hour or so then spend the afternoon racing there cars.  A perfect activity when you are trying to beat the heat or stuck inside.  

Dinosaur Quiet Time Playmat

Yesterday I posted my Lil' Traveler Race Track.  Today is the Lil' Traveler Dinosaur Play mat.  I found this post with Serving Pink Lemonade.  I love the little mat she made for traveling on the airplane or car and wanted to make one for my little guy.  I just never got around to it until I had my Race Car Mat idea.  Both of these mats are the perfect size for carrying around. Not Bulky and will keep your lil' guy occupied. Here is how I did it.  

Quiet Time Play Mat Tutorial

For the Vinyl version I used the layout from Serving Pink Lemonade but used iron on transfer vinyl from Expressions Vinyl. I just picked a few colors and went for it. (Note: When buying vinyl make sure you have a piece long enough to work.) I love this method.  I just cut everything out one night while watching my favorite show and the next morning I put it together. For the back ground I use 2 fabrics. One for the sky and one for the ground using equal parts.  Just sew them together and Iron.  Then finish the instructions in the play mat tutorial.

For the felt version I followed the same method except I really like having my felt sewn on.  So I sewed mine into place instead of ironing

Lil' Traveler Race Track Quiet Toy

A few months ago my in laws came into town. They brought each of my kids these little mini race cars.  Each of them pulled back a went for a short drive. They all loved them.  This gave me an idea.  Why not make a small race track to drive them on. So I started coming up with ideas on how to make it and voile here it is.  There is two way to do it.  Purchase the vinyl race track or cut one from felt and sew it onto your mat.  Here is what I did. The cars were purchased at a local place.  But you can purchase micro cars at Target and Toys R Us us as well. 

Future MacGuyver Kit {Maybe I Will}

Do you have a guy who love gadgets and gizmos?  If so this may be the perfect gift.  Do you remember Mac Guyver from when you were a kid?? My family loved it.  Know you can watch it on Netflix.  So I sat my kids down and showed them a few episodes.  It is a little hokey looking back but if nothing else it brings back the creativity and problem solving kids need. Andie from Maybe I will came up with this adorable kit for her son and he is in love.  I used it as part of my TV segment. He was thrilled when I brought  it back home. Needless to say it was a hit!  So head on over and check it out!

Christmas in July {Ginger Snap Crafts}

Another great idea for Christmas this year from Ginger Snap Crafts.  She has made these adorable wood blocks.  Your kids can build what ever they want. Christmas in July {Creative Capital B}
