Super Hero Dress Ups and Costume

A few months ago I hosted a yard sale for a Youth Fundraiser.  One of the donations was a simple super hero cape made by a neighbor who had passed away.  Her family were cleaning out the house and decided to donate the old dress ups.  I was totally intrigues by the simplicity of these capes and just had to recreate them in an updated version.  So I began figure out the designs I wanted and how I would put them together.  So today I will share how I made the basic cape and over the next couple of weeks I will share the individual images I made for each super hero. So First up is Spiderman!
I will start with the basic cape that is used for all versions.

Alex Boye' "Let it Go" Inspired Winter White Sunday Dress

Several weeks ago we found a a music video online with the song "Let it Go" from Frozen, with the voices of Alex Boye' and Lexi Walker. My daughter became obsessed with the video and song.  I think every girl is!  I was more obsessed with the dresses the little Power house singer was wearing. I literally stayed up looking online for the two dresses. My husband just sat and laughed at me.  He finds my crazy funny.  But he knows once my brain starts looking it can't stop until I find what I am looking for.  I found the black and gray dress in the price range of $150. The cream one I couldn't find.  So I decided to make it myself.  So here is my take on the beautiful winter white dress Lexi was wearing in the music video.  A simple and Elegant winter white dress.

Girls Inspiration Collage Wall + Free Printable

I have been working on a little something for my daughter. Growing up is tough.  I want her to have strong role models that lift her up and make her feel good about herself, to always look for the good, have courage, know that beauty is not everything and when hard times come, to know that she can do it.
I love collage walls. So I decided to combine my collage wall with a few inspirational quotes. The collage wall will serve as daily reminder of what she is capable of.

Easy Color Block Tees DIY

Have you seen the new styles in stores lately? I feel like I am in a flashback.  My 12 year old self on Christmas day wearing my color blocked shirt and acid washed hot pink jeans.  I was so cute.  As I shop for my daughter I see tons of clothing styles and colors I wore back in the day.  I keep seeing color blocking  and Neon everywhere.  Instead of buying all those expensive shirts I decided to make my own.  You can make yourself  2 shirts for under $10.  Here is how you do it.

Halloween Costume -Little Bo Peep

Here is my Little Bo Peep.  I dreamed of this costume from the time I knew was having a daughter.  I come from a family of Boys.  Lots and lots of them.  So having a little girl is kind of the bees knees around here.  You know the stars, moons and planets aligned kind of thing. She is my Joy and my Muse...

Little Bo Peep Costume
I wanted so badly to make her a Little Bo Peep.  Last year was the year to do it.  Her little costume was a labor of love.  I looked at a lot of pictures of  Bo peep costumes. I came up with this.

I started with a basic peasant top.  I used my Simply Jane pattern. I just made the shirt white.

For the skirt I made a basic skirt but doubled the fabric to make it more full.  I added a little lace to fancy it up.

For the bloomers I used a basic capri of pajama pattern.  I added 3 rows of lace to the bottoms for ruffles. (Lace and fabric from Joanns)

Her crook was an after Christmas sale candy cane  I got for .25 cents. I wrapped it with white ribbon and added a large Pink bow.

Her little lamb was an after Easter sale at Target we picked up for $2.00

For her vest I used an old t shirt and cut off the arms and cut down the neck line as my pattern.  Then I used black velvet and lined it with some scrap fabric.I used some turquoise fabric and cut 2 half circles.  I gathered the half circles and pinned them to the vest. Sew vest with right sides together, leave a small opening and turn.  Top stitch the vest.  I then added small grommets for lacing.

Her bonnet was a trial and error mishap.  Made from Peltex, ribbon and underwear fabric.  I cut a basic bonnet pattern and gathered my fabric onto it.  This hat took me as long to make as the whole rest of the outfit.  It turned out to be the perfect finishing piece.
